Brand Voice & Style

Make every article sound like you wrote it. Here's how to configure your AI writing personality.

What is brand voice?

Brand voice is how your blog "sounds" to readers. Is it friendly and casual? Or expert and authoritative? Heyy lets you configure this so AI writes consistently in your style across every article.

The 4 settings explained

Voice personality (Tone)

Slide between friendly/casual and expert/authoritative. This controls the overall feel of your articles. Casual = like chatting with a friend. Authoritative = like reading a research paper.

Tip: Most blogs work best around 50-60% (professional but approachable).

How formal should it sound?

Separate from tone -- this controls structure and language. Relaxed = contractions, short sentences, informal words. Professional = longer sentences, precise vocabulary, structured paragraphs.

Tip: Match your audience. B2B = more formal. Consumer blogs = more relaxed.

Writing approach

Informative (facts + explanations), Analytical (data + insights), Conversational (like talking to a friend), Storytelling (engaging narratives), Persuasive (action-oriented).

Tip: Informative works for most blogs. Try Conversational for lifestyle/personal brands.

Who's speaking?

First person (We/I) = the brand speaks directly. Second person (You) = addresses readers. Third person = neutral, objective reporting.

Tip: "You" (second person) is the most engaging for how-to content.

Custom instructions

The most powerful feature. Write specific rules that AI follows for every article. Examples:

-- "Use simple language that a 12-year-old can understand"
-- "Always include practical, actionable tips"
-- "Start each article with a compelling question"
-- "Avoid jargon -- explain technical terms when you must use them"
-- "Include bullet points and numbered lists for easy scanning"
-- "End each article with a key takeaway summary"

Best practices

  • -- Start with a preset (Professional, Casual, Expert, Storyteller) then fine-tune
  • -- Read 3-5 generated articles before adjusting -- AI needs context to shine
  • -- Use custom instructions for specific rules, not general vibes (that's what tone is for)
  • -- Be specific: "Include 3 examples per section" beats "Use examples sometimes"
  • -- Update your voice as your blog evolves -- it's not set in stone
